Indonesia and Iran agree to work shoulder by shoulder to help Palestine

Jakarta, IO – Indonesia and Iran have agreed to work together to help Palestine amidst the onslaught of Israeli attacks. This was concluded during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Global Refugee Forum (GRF) in Geneva, Switzerland.

“We discussed the situation in Gaza and agreed on the importance of ceasefire. Without ceasefire, it will not be possible to improve the situation in Gaza,” said Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, per detikcom, Thu (14/12).

“We also agreed to work together to help Palestine,” she added. Retno further explained that Iran plans to hold a High-Level Consultative Conference on Palestine in Tehran on December 23. In addition, she has held meetings with a number of parties including the commissioner general of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

UNRWA reported that as of December 12, as many as 1.9 million people or more than 85 percent of the population in Gaza had been displaced.

Meanwhile, the Gaza Ministry of Health recorded that 18,205 Palestinians have been killed in the conflict. In addition, more than 49,645 people were injured between October 7 to December 11.

In the West Bank, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that 265 Palestinians, 69 of them children, have been killed by Israeli soldiers. (un)
