Jakarta, IO – Fahry Septian Putratama finally did it. Along with Jakarta LavAni Allo Bank, he won the Proliga 2023 and became the Most Valuable Player for Indonesia’s highest volleyball tournament.

LavAni is Fahry’s fourth club to date. His Proliga debut was with young team Jakarta Garuda in 2019. In the following season, Fahry joined Palembang Bank Sumsel – the same year that Proliga had to go on hiatus because of the Covid-19 pandemic, all the way through 2021.

In 2022, Fahry joined Kudus Sukun Badak. Despite having him, Islomjon Sobirov (Uzbekistan), and Douglas Bueno (Brazil) in its roster, the team failed to get into the Final Fours, finishing 5th in the regular placements. Despite this failure, Fahry’s talent continued to shine: he was summoned into the National team to participate in the Vietnam SEA Games.

Unfortunately, he lost the chance because of non-technical issues. “I was severely down. In fact, I nearly lost my spirit for volleyball back then,” Fahry recalled ruefully. “The support of many, especially of my beloved wife, Ajeng Rindayu, revived and strengthened me. I learnt a lot from the errors in the past season, and am continuing to improve myself.”

Another proof that Fahry’s abilities are well acknowledged was the fact reigning champions LavAni inducted him, despite the fact that it is star-studded already. Later on, he was proven to be a reliable member who even became the MVP for this year – as well as getting selected as a member of the Men’s Volleyball National Squad for the upcoming SEA Games 2023 in Cambodia.

“The other day, Coach Jiang Jie (the Chinese coach for the Indonesian National Men’s Volleyball Team) asked me at the hotel, ‘Are you ready for the SEA Games?’” reported Fahry during the Proliga 2023 Post-Finals press conference, Sunday, 19 March at Among Rogo Sports Hall, Yogyakarta. “So I told him straight out, ‘I am 100% ready to battle for Indonesia.’”

Fahry has given his word to give his best for the Red-and-White Team, the reigning champions of the Southeast Asia volleyball event. Good luck, Fahry et al.! Keep the gold medal in Indonesia’s hands in the upcoming Cambodian SEA Games! (rp)
