Dubai Police free two Indonesian migrant workers ensnared by prostitution ring

Jakarta, IO – IOW and SP, Indonesian migrant workers from Cianjur and Banten were successfully freed from being held captive by a prostitution ring in Dubai, UAE, Monday (10/7).

According to information on the Foreign Ministry’s (Kemlu) website, the incident occurred at around 4am local time. Prior to the case being followed up by the police, the Indonesian Consulate General in Dubai had learned about their whereabouts.

IOW and SP will be questioned to obtain valuable information that can be used to uncover prostitution syndicates in Dubai. Currently both of them are being sheltered in an accommodation facility under the auspices of the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children.

Separately, Kemlu’s Citizen Protection Directorate and related institutions have conveyed the latest situation regarding the incident to the victims’ families.

Kemlu also appealed to the public not to be easily tempted by job offers in the Middle East. Until today, the Indonesian Representative in the UAE has recorded 293 migrant workers with issues who returned to Indonesia throughout 2023. (un)
