Coastal Abrasion will soon swamp Muara Gembong, North Bekasi

President Joe Biden predicted the sinking of Jakarta within the next ten
years, it has drawn the attention of many parties. The threat of drowning
also haunts the Bekasi coastal area in Muara Gembong, Bekasi Regency.

When the Independent Observer visited Muarajaya Village, Muara Gembong, Bekasi Regency, coastal abrasion had already seen seawater wash away dozens of houses since 2007. Local communities have made strenuous efforts to overcome land abrasion, one of which is by replanting mangroves. This was considered insignificant, as the result was insufficient. Hence, residents were forced to abandon their homes and move to the nearest safe area.
