While most residents have left their homes, Sartain (49), registered as a resident of Cakung, East Jakarta had to remain living in his damaged house, due to economic hardship. He has been occupying a damaged house in Pantai Mekar Village belonging to a relative for the past two years. When his relative moved to another village, he and his family had no other place to live.
This is deeply concerning. The deserted village is becoming quieter and emptier. It is simply unbearable to inhabit. Will this appalling condition be allowed to continue? (Aslam)
