Jakarta, IO – Students from the Association of University Student Executive Bodies (BEM SI) gathered near the Horse Monument, Central Jakarta on Friday (20/10). In this rally, they voiced their concerns about the changes and instability that in their view happened during the current administration.
The students also criticized the recent Constitutional Court’s (MK) decision regarding the minimum age limit for presidential and vice presidential candidates. They had 13 demands, including improving education, eradicating corruption, and investigating violence that occurred in Rempang, which is one of the National Strategy Projects (PSN).

They waved posters containing their demands and burned used tires around the location. This caused small commotion between the students and the police. Central Jakarta Police chief Kombes Susatyo Purnomo Condro said around 1,611 personnel from the National Police, TNI and Jakarta Administration were deployed to maintain order and security during the demonstration. The police also closed off Medan Merdeka Barat Street in Central Jakarta, near the State Palace.
