Jakarta, IO – The polemic regarding the abrogation of Jakarta’s status as Indonesia’s administrative capital has raised concerns and question among members of the public. This decision, which has been officially implemented since February 15, refers to the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Law.

Even though its implementation will begin after the IKN Law Article 41 (2) is passed, it created an unresolved polemic regarding the clarity of its status. The article stipulates that the status of Jakarta will be superseded by Nusantara in East Kalimantan through a presidential decree (Keppres). However, up until now, the Keppres has not been issued. Meanwhile, Jakarta still adheres to Law 29/2007 on provincial government of the Special Capital Region (DKI) of Jakarta.

However, experts believe that is believed that the various complex problems that beset Jakarta will not magically go away post-relocation. According to a survey conducted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), there are four acute problems in Jakarta, including traffic jams, slums, flood and lack of access to clean water.
