Jakarta, IO – The first waterski championship in North Sulawesi kicked off from today, Friday (24/11) to Sunday (26/11) in Tondano, Minahasa.
It features two watersports, namely wakeboard and wakesurf. A total of 84 athletes from various countries such as China, Japan and Thailand also participated, per Kompas.
The Governor of North Sulawesi, Olly Dondokambey, said Minahasa Wakafest 2023 is held to promote tourism in Lake Tondano whilst preserving Minahasa culture.
“Hopefully, this international sporting event can continue, because this activity has a positive impact on tourism in North Sulawesi Province,” said Olly.

Minahasa Wakafest is the 2023 ASIA series championship from the International Wakesurf and Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) themed “Lake Tondano: Home for Everyone”.
“Other than sporting activities, North Sulawesi Provincial Government and Minahasa Regency Government are also holding side events as a forum for promoting Minahasa culture, in the form of cultural attractions, food festival, souvenirs and entertainment events,” said Olly. (un)
