Jakarta, IO – The use of artificial intelligence has started to expand across a number of industries, including agriculture. An agricultural technology business called GREENS provides everyone inclusive access to organic produce. Young people are increasingly involved in the agricultural challenges.
“Young people play an important role in Indonesia’s development, particularly in addressing challenges in the agriculture sector. With roughly 70 percent of farmers being elderly, regeneration becomes critical,” said Erwin Gunawan, GREENS’ co-founder and Chief Business Officer.
GREENS is also one of the founders of the Maju Tani movement, which encourages young people to become farmers, by using the metafarming.id app.
“GREENS presents technological solutions, utilizing Smart Controlled Environment Agriculture using GREENS pods, enabling farming in many different locations, including buildings, and inviting young people to become digital farmers through metafarming. This is a significant step toward developing the agricultural industry and enhancing our country’s food resilience,” said Erwin, one of the speakers at the 2023 Sampoerna University Bright Future Talks, “From Youth for Indonesia: Sustainable and Inclusive Technology,” on Friday, October 27, in Jakarta.
The GREENS Pod regulates the environment, humidity, water, and light. “GREENS is not just a startup company, but a movement. A movement to ensure that we can live well. The community must carry out this movement to achieve food sovereignty. We expect this agricultural technology solution to perform better with more and more people knowing about it and applying it,” added Erwin.
GREENS was founded to provide food solutions in Indonesia and hopefully around the world. “52 percent of the world’s land has been degraded, with fresh water being scarce and farmers lacking resources; it gets worse with the fact that many young people refuse to become farmers,” said Erwin.
“GREENS Indonesia creates the GREENS Pod, an indoor vertical farming system with smart control. It is highly portable and can be cultivated anywhere, even inside restaurants,” Erwin explained.
“GREENS Indonesia uses blockchain technology to connect its multidimensional online farming and to encourage the next generation; it is just like playing farming games in the metaverse while learning to cultivate,” convinced Erwin.

“GREENS pod guarantees 99.5 percent successful harvesting as there are no bad variables affecting the crops,” he confidently stated.
“We can plant leafy GREENS, edible flowers, berries like strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and others, with pure and healthy nonGMO (Genetically Modified Organism) seeds, with shorter harvesting period. For instance a month-long harvest period can take only 15 days. We seek to become the food solutions to Indonesia and the world. Securing food sovereignty means providing access to nutritious food for all,” he concluded. (eka/rp)
