West Java Governor declares waste emergency for Greater Bandung

Jakarta, IO – According to West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, this measure was taken because the blaze engulfing the Sarimukti Final Disposal Site in Cipatat district, West Bandung regency since Saturday (19/8) has yet to be put out after a week had not yet been extinguished after a week.

The decision was stipulated in Decree 658/Kep.579-DLH/2023 on the establishment of Greater Bandung Waste Emergency Status on August 24, per Detikcom, Saturday (26/8).

The landfill serves Greater Bandung area which includes the city of Bandung and Cimahi and regency of West Bandung. The fire has caused thick smoke and poor visibility.

The status is valid until September 24. Ridwan Kamil also instructed areas that previously depended on the Sarimukti to process their own waste.

“Perform waste management independently due to the closing of the Sarimukti Compost Processing Site (TPK),” instructed Ridwan Kamil. (un)
