Jakarta, IO – The Latvian men’s basketball team convincingly started their inaugural international basketball match at FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 with a 109-70 win over Lebanon at the Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, Friday (25/8).
Latvia played aggresively. Dairis Bertans and team mates bombarded Lebanon’s defense with accurate long-range shots. As a result, Latvia won 27-17 over Lebanon in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Latvia continued to dominate the match with a score of 43-24. Latvia also looks comfortable in breaching the Lebanese defense. This put them to a 55-30 lead at the end of the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Lebanon became increasingly desperate. They trailed by 35 points at 36-71. Lebanon improved the score to 41-76. However, their efforts could not stop Latvia from leading 82-48 in the third quarter.

Due to team solidity, Latvia was unstoppable. It concluded the match with three-point shots to take the lead 109-70 at the end of the fourth quarter. The victory over Lebanon was also a sweet FIBA World Cup debut for Latvia.
