Jakarta, IO – Residents train pigeons while waiting to break their fast in Menteng, Jakarta (19/3). Aside from a hobby, training pigeons is a means to kill time while waiting for the Maghrib call to prayer. Some of them even brought along their favorite birds to be trained for pigeon racing.
The techniques used in this training are quite interesting. Pigeon enthusiasts release birds quite far away. Then, they watched with great anticipation whether the bird would return to them. For hobbyists, the moment gives them a lot of satisfaction. However, it is not uncommon for the birds to lose their way and do not return to their owner.

However, pigeon racing is not just entertainment. A well-trained pair of pigeons can be a high-value asset. Some of them can even be sold at high prices, ranging from one million to tens of millions of rupiah. This shows that racing pigeons is not just a recreational activity, but also a promising business.
Of course, this is not surprising considering that pigeons have the ability to fly extraordinary long distances, covering hundreds of kilometers in one go.
