Jakarta, IO – Footballer Cyrus Margono officially became an Indonesian citizen (WNI) after taking the oath of allegiance at the Jakarta office of the Law and Human Rights Ministry (Kemenkumham), Thursday (21/3) morning.
Cyrus now has the opportunity to strengthen the Indonesian National Team (Timnas). His position as goalkeeper could be a consideration for coach Shin Tae Yong, per CNN Indonesia, Thu (21/3).
Cyrus did not undergo a normal naturalization process. The 23-year-old player born in 2001 in Mount Kisco, US, applied to become a citizen through the State Secretariat (Setneg) and Kemenkumham. He has Indonesian heritage from his father, while his mother is from Iran.
Cyrus was introduced to football since he was still a child. He began his career at New York Soccer Club and Met Oval Academy. In 2015, the 190cm-tall goalkeeper also trained with the Inter Milan Academy.
His career reached new height when he was invited to play for Panathinaikos B. Cyrus, who was making a name for himself in Europe, became interested in Indonesian citizenship when he visited Indonesian Embassy in Athens, Greece, on January 31 this year to seek an opportunity to play for Timnas. (un)
