Jakarta, IO – A research team from Gadjah Mada University’s (UGM) Faculty of Engineering, led by Dr. Igi Ardiyanto, succeeded in discovering solutions to overcome dental problems, according to an article published on UGM’s website on Monday (26/12).

Dr. Igi explained that the application was developed because the 2018 Basic Health Survey (Riskesdas) found that more than half of Indonesia’s population suffer dental problems and only around 7 percent of Indonesian children don’t have dental cavities (caries).

“However, only about 10 percent of Indonesia’s population have access to dental health services. This is partly because there is a general lack awareness about dental and oral health,” said Dr. Igi.

The research was carried out in collaboration with PT Ceria Inovasi Internasional (KLINIKOO). “By utilizing artificial intelligence technology, the team has succeeded in developing a digital application called KLINIKOO Dental Scanning,” said Dr. Igi.

While the application is still in its early stage, it is able to detect cavities just from an image uploaded to the app.
