The sorrow of a mother whose daughter died from acute kidney injury

Jakarta, IO – The inaugural trial of class action lawsuit in the case of atypical progressive acute kidney injury (APAKI) in children was held at the Central Jakarta District Court, Tuesday (17/1). As many as 25 families of the patients sued 11 parties including the Health Ministry of (Kemenkes), the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) and the Finance Ministry (Kemenkeu).

Soliha (38), whose 3-year-old daughter Azqiara Anindita Nuha died from APAKI said that the purpose of the trial was to create a deterrent effect to those responsible. The class action suit was filed because the government should be able to prevent fatal drug poisoning.

Soliha told her struggle when her daughter was found to suffer from APAKI. When she had fever and flu, Soliha gave her paracetamol syrup, the usual medicine she would give when her daughter was sick.

Azqiara’s condition improved after taking the syrup, but just a day later she suddenly vomited and was rushed to the nearest clinic. The clinic prescribed some medicine but the vomiting wouldn’t stop. Finally, Soliha took her daughter to Bunda Aliyah Hospital for a lab test. It was then that doctor told her that Azqiara suffered from stage three APAKI and had to be transferred to a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
