Sumbawa, IO – Lake Lebo Taliwang has a potential to become one of the main tourist destinations in West Sumbawa. It has an area of 752 hectares. But so far it has been underutilized, being used by the locals as a grazing ground for their cattle.

Lake Lebo Taliwang was formed from the overflow of the Brang Rea and Brang Ene rivers on the outskirts of Taliwang City (the capital of West Sumbawa regency). Naturally, Lebo Taliwang functions as a floodgate to control the volume of water from the two rivers during the rainy season.

Due to the various types of plants such as water hyacinth, lotus and other floating vegetation, the swampy lake has become a habitat of several bird species such as grouse and troak. In the 1980s, Lebok Taliwang even became home to pelican colonies that migrated from Australia due to the changing seasons. (IO/Muhammad Hidayat)
