Thai Police Arrest 4 Indonesian Citizens Who Robbed Japanese Tourist in Bangkok

Jakarta, IO – The incident happened at a shopping center in Bangkok, Wednesday (25/1). The amount of funds stolen by Indonesian citizens amounted to US$8,700 (Rp137 million).

The four Indonesian citizens are identified as Jaya Abidi (61), Irsandi (58), Suhenda (41) and Iwan Susanto (50). The arrests were made after police checked the CCTV of the EmQuartier mall on Sukhumvit Road. Per CNN Indonesia, Monday (29/1).

The robbery occurred when a Japanese tourist named Yoshimune Yoshida was about to enter a shopping center. At that moment, four Indonesian citizens approached Yoshida from various directions, snatched his belongings and fled using a taxi.

The police then followed their footsteps and found that the group got out of a taxi on Soi Ekamai and changed to another taxi. They then stopped in front of the Buddy Place Hotel at Ramkhamhaeng Soi 81/4.

The police finally arrested the Indonesians in front of the hotel lobby. According to information from hotel staff, they rented three hotel rooms there.

Police revealed that after committing their action, the perpetrators divided the money among themselves and sent the proceeds of crime to their families in Indonesia. (un)
