Tanzanian Embassy Inaugurated in Indonesia to Mark Bilateral Cooperation

Jakarta, IO – RI Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi undergoes bilateral meting with Stergomena Tax, Tanzania Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Pancasila Building, Jakarta, Thursday (22/06/2023).

The Meeting is being held to celebrate the inauguration of the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Jakarta, while strengthening the bond between the two nations. Minister Retno reported that “Tanzania is Indonesia’s second biggest East African trade partner. With the opening of the Tanzanian Embassy, we hope that both countries will benefit, and that we can improve the bond of our friendships with Africanc countries in general.”

Retno went on to report that the Meeting discusses cooperation opportunity in several fields.

First of this is trade cooperation. Trade relations between Indonesia and Tanzania undergoes a 50% rising trend in the 2019-2022 period, with trade value exceeding USD 340 millions. “At the moment, Indonesia seeks to export more types of goods, including rubber tires, fertilizer, and foodstuff,” she declared. “We would also like to expand investment coopeation between our respective entrepreneurs, which will contribute to the economic development of the two countries.”

Minister Retno went on to add that after the Covid-19 pandemic, both countries need to strengthen their health cooperation to ensure security when facing similar threats. Therefore, Indonesian pharmaceutical company Dexa Medica will cooperate with the Tanzanian government and supply products there.

Thirdly, developmental cooperation is equally important for expansion.”RI-Tanzania developmental cooperation has existed since 2018. During these 5 years, we have performed various cooperative programs, including capacity building and trainings on food security, trade investments, and education,” Retno explained.

During the same event, Tax revealed that Tanzania is open to expanding the scope of its coopreation with us. “Indonesia is one of our allies. We will extend further communications in the near future by having our Prime Minister visit Indonesia at the end of the year,” he declared. (bp)
