Jakarta, IO – SETARA Institute released its 2022 Tolerant City Index (IKT) report where it declared Singkawang in West Kalimantan as the the most tolerant city of the 94 cities surveyed, reported Detik, Saturday (8/4).

There are eight criteria used to come up with the score, including government regulations, social regulations, government actions and socio-religious demography.

Singkawang scored 6,583, continuing its record in the previous year with the score of 6,483. In the second place is Salatiga in Central Java (6,417), followed by Bekasi in West Java.

Meanwhile, for intolerant cities, SETARA Institute director Ismail Hasani said Depok and Cilegon are at the bottom, finishing 93rd (3,610) and 94th (3,227), respectively.

One of the things that made Cilegon an intolerant city is the policies that enable the local government and community to carry out intolerant actions.

“The local government shares the same view with those who have intolerant political aspirations such as banning the construction of houses of worship. It’s score for government’s actions is zero,” said Ismail. (un)
