“I’ve noticed that stroke is a common illness among people with a degraded quality of life. This disease has one of the highest death rates in existence, killing about 300,000 people a year. Furthermore, it might even cause you to suffer from disabilities even if you survive it,” declared Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin in the “Proctoring for Stroke” online press conference, held by the National Brain Center Hospital, on Monday (26/12/2022).

The number of health service facilities and surgical specialists available for treating stroke patients is grossly insufficient. “Therefore, one of the objectives of transforming our referral health services is by strengthening our stroke-related services, specifically with the target of providing 514 regencies and townships in all 38 of our provinces, with proper facilities and equipment for non-surgical interventions. The Government is working to ensure that eventually, the hospitals in all regencies and townships satisfy service standards for treating stroke patients,” Minister Budi said.

One of the programs created to strengthen stroke-related services is proctoring. It was created with the hope to provide better access of these services to the people. One such program is located in the Prof. dr. IGNG Ngoerah Central General Hospital, Denpasar, Bali. After mentoring from the National Brain Center Hospital, the Prof. Ngoerah Central General Hospital now provides non-surgical treatment for stroke patients, specifically thrombectomies, coilings, and/or clippings.
