Jakarta, IO – The Constitutional Court (MK) approved a judicial review of Law 7/2017 on General Elections regarding the age limit for presidential and vice presidential candidates proposed by a Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta (UNS) student named Almas Tsaqibbirru Re A. Almas. It ruled that the age limit remains 40 years of age, unless the candidates have been heads of regional administrations.

In its considerations, MK stated that previous requests such as from the Garuda Party were different from the request submitted by the student in the norms of the article being petitioned.

This decision was marked by dissenting opinions from two judges, namely Suhartoyo and Guntur Hamzah and crowd of protesters demonstrating outside the court building around Horse Monument, Central Jakarta.
