IO – General Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (Partai Demokrasi Indonesia Perjuangan – “PDIP”), Megawati Soekarnoputri, delivered a sharp warning, during the online inauguration of 25 new PDIP offices, a broadcast on the Party’s official YouTube channel, Sunday (30/05/2021): all Party cadres must obey all orders of the Party. “And that goes for all members, particularly Party Officials. Party Officials must obey what the Party instructs them to do, instead of saying “No, I don’t want to do that,” she repeated.

Mega griped that she frequently notes how her Party cadres tend to get lackadaisical when they get assigned to the field. “That’s right: I frequently see how reluctant they become when assigned to go down to the lower levels,” she said. “Well, I don’t care whether you’re Party Officials or not – don’t sell the Party’s name for your own purposes. Don’t just wear the Party’s uniform, while being reluctant to do Party work!”

Megawati’s voice was raised when she declared that cadres who refuse to act as Party Officials in the true meaning of the term should simply leave the Party. “Therefore, I say it will be much better for those of you who don’t want to become true Party Officials, I’m no longer talking about ordinary Party members here, but Party Officials, those who are given specific duties and assignments by the Party, OUT! Just go on and leave. Please stop talking to me about the same people who caused trouble before. I’m telling you that I’ve had cases – I kicked them out, and they start writhing helplessly on the floor,” she said.

Megawati then went on to recount how former dismissed cadres, whose identity she keeps a secret, begged to return to the Party. “They cried begging to return, bla, hey, what do you that for? You can’t put this together with that! You’re late, your thinking is too late. If you clearly betray the Party, then you’re out. Either you see yourselves out or we escort you out, as simple as that. Really, how do you still get to act like that in times like this? I’ll keep on talking about it each time, just to remind you,” she said.

Mega declared that her dream is for her cadres to cherish a clear identity as PDIP cadres just from the look in their eyes and the attitude that they bear. “This is what I feel. People don’t need to meet me personally to know that I’m the General Chairwoman of PDIP. Everyone knows it by now: “That’s Ibu Mega, the lady who smiles. That’s the General Chairwoman of PDIP. Even foreign citizens know that. That’s how I want my cadres to be recognized,”.

Mega went on to express her hope that Party cadres and Officials will have the views and attitudes of visionaries. “I really would like my cadres to learn from the life stories of the Prophets, those people whose teachings are memorized and passed on by their adherents through the ages. In this way, the people will be able to see the merit of our work. However, we still base everything on the tenets of Pancasila as the underlying ideology of our nation, as well. This is how I lead PDIP myself: By showing everyone that I work hard. This is how I do things as a leader, as I should. If I do that, I can bring my followers down my path,” she said.

Megawati is optimistic that PDIP will be the winning party. “So you see, we want to win. We want to be the pioneering party. Can we do it or not? Yes we can! Now I know that if I say this, some people might want to look down on me. That is up to them,” she said. “But me, I become like this because all of you. Don’t you know that you are my soldiers? If you all become weak, so will I. Please don’t forget that. If you refuse to move, I see no way of making our Party become greater.” (des)
