Man who ties the national flag on a dog’s neck named a suspect

Jakarta, IO – RH, 22, has been named a suspect for tying the national flag on a stray dog’s neck in Bengkalis regency, Riau. His antic was deemed an insult to the national symbol.

RH was charged with violation of law on flag, language, state emblem and national anthem which carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and a maximum fine of Rp500 million, per Kumparan, Monday (14/8).

RH admitted that he did it to celebrate the Indonesian Independence Day.

Bengkalis Police chief Setyo Bimo Anggoro said the designation of his status as a suspect has been in accordance with the proper procedures. Three experts have also been questioned. Nevertheless, he refused to explain in detail the reasons behind the decision.

“I will not comment because it will be a subjective assessment. Our job is to carry out an investigation according to the law,” said Setyo.

When he committed the act, RH was reprimanded by other employees who felt that it was inappropriate. When asked to remove the flag, RH refused. The footage went rival on social media and landed him in hot water. (un)
