Ice Dew phenomenon in Dieng Plateau sees temperature drops to minus 2 degrees Celsius

Jakarta, IO – Frost has returned to the Dieng Plateau, Banjarnegara regency, Central Java, Monday (14/8). This phenomenon has occurred four days in a row.

Sri Utami, head of Dieng Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of Banjarnegara Tourism and Culture Agency, noted the temperature around Arjuna Temple complex even reached minus two degrees Celsius, per Kompas.

“Apart from the Arjuna temple complex, the appearance of the ice dew also extended to the surrounding agricultural areas,” said Sri Utami.

Despite experiencing unusual cold temperature, this phenomenon has turned into an attraction with tourist visits increasing lately. “There has been a 40 to 50 percent increase in tourist visits,” she noted.

She said tourists wishing to see the frost must come early in the morning as the phenomenon only last from 5:30 to 7am WIB.

Ice dew in the Dieng first appeared in March. This phenomenon is expected to frequently appear at the peak of the dry season in August and September. (un)
