Jakarta, IO – Hariyanto Wijaya Sarwono”? Despite the fact that he rarely receives attention in the media, Lim is in fact one of the top ten wealthiest people in Indonesia, according to Forbes Billionaire, with a fortune of US$ 4.3 billion, or IDR 65.37 trillion. 

At 94 years of age, Lim Hariyanto is Indonesia’s oldest living conglomerate mogul, ranking eighth on the list of Indonesia’s richest people, according to CNBC Indonesia. 

Lim’s fortune has skyrocketed ahead of the initial public offering (IPO) of one of his Harita Group business units. His assets were recorded to have increased by 0.45 percent, or IDR 333.8 billion, overnight. 

His wealth grew significantly within the last year, amounted to approximately US $1.1 billion, or IDR 16.50 trillion, in 2022. Resulting in Lim becoming the sixth richest person in Indonesia, competing with petrochemical tycoon Prajogo Pangestu. 

Lim’s assets are increasing in value along with the IPO of one of the Harita Group’s nickel business units, PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk., or TBP (NCKL), which issued 12.09 billion shares to the public, which equals 18 percent of the company’s issued and paid-up capital at an IDR 100 per share. 

The IPO of NCKL is expected to be the largest of the year since TBP intends to issue an initial public offering (IPO) worth up to US$600 million, or around IDR 9.7 trillion. 

Lim Hariyanto also gains his wealth from a majority stake in Bumitama Agri, a Singapore-listed palm oil producer, with his plantation located in Indonesia. 

He also owns the majority of the registered bauxite mining firms in Indonesia, including PT Cita Mineral Investindo Tbk (CITA). 

One of his sons, Lim Gunawan Hariyanto, inherits the business passion, ruling as the CEO of Bumitama Agri, while one of his daughters, Christina, is the president and commissioner of a securities firm, Harita Kencana Sekuritas.

Lim Tju King, Lim Hariyanto’s father, was a native Chinese from Fujian who migrated to East Kalimantan due to the confict between the nationalist and communist camps at the time. 

His father began working after moving from China, from trading to becoming a porter. Despite the fact that Lim’s father was paid very little for his labor, he lived a frugal life and always saved as much as he could. 

When he had enough money, he opened a modest food store and a grocery store in 1915. Lim Tju King’s grocery store grew in popularity and expanded into other enterprises. It was Lim Tju King’s business that was actually passed on to his son, Lim Hariyanto. (rp)
