Jakarta, IO – The Environment and Forestry Ministry (KLHK) announced the discovery of two new species of flora and one species of fauna spread across several regions in Indonesia. This discovery is an indicator of the rich biodiversity of Indonesia, and shows the success of the conservation efforts.

Environment and Forestry Ministry Siti Nurbaya said one of the plant species found was of the genus Hanguana which was named Hanguana sitinurbayai and came from the Gunung Nyiut Nature Reserve in West Kalimantan.

Another species was named Bulbophyllum wiratnoi, classified as an orchid with an epiphytic habit, namely a way of life that attaches to tree trunks or branches without harming its host. This species was found in Sorong, West Papua, specifically in a lowland tropical rainforest ecosystem with an altitude of 114 meters above sea level.

The next species is a bird discovered by the LIPI Biology Research Center on Rote Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province in 2018. It was named Myzomela irianawidodoae after the First Lady Iriana Widodo.
