Jakarta, IO – Law and Human Rights Ministry (Kemenkumhan) revealed that many Indonesian citizens (WNI) have renounced their Indonesian citizenship and become Singapore citizens.
Immigration director general Silmy Karim estimates that the figure reached roughly 1,000 people per year. According to him, now Indonesia is competing with other countries over “smart people”, per detikcom, Tuesday (11/7).
Silmy assessed that Indonesia cannot solely rely on natural resources because sooner or later, they will run out. Thus, it is the human resource side that must be improved. He also encouraged Gen Z to increase their personal capacity.
Nevertheless, Gen Zs still face many problems, including high cost of living, limited access to career support and inequality and poverty. (un)
