Jakarta, IO – “Books are a unique way for humans to view the world. They explore all aspects of life, transform lives, and enable us to see things differently. Books can change your life.” – Anonymous

After three months of her book-writing journey, Kalya Mahiya’s effort has finally come to fruition with her book, “Story of Kalya”. So, what does she say in her personal volume?

“This book tells the story of my life, from the day I was born to today. I talk about my academic achievements, my passion for dancing, and the world of fashion design. I also share stories about my family, my father, my mother, and my two older siblings,” explained Kalya in a special interview with the Independent Observer on November 4, 2023.

Following the premiere of her book, Kalya’s school, Al Izhar Junior High School in Pondok Labu, Jakarta, held a book talk and review on “Story of Kalya” to commemorate the Bulan Bahasa (the month of linguistics) in October. The event lasted for an hour, with 35 students attending the event at the Bustanil Arifin Library, Al Izhar Junior High School. “It feels great to conduct a book talk on the ‘Story of Kalya’ because this is my first experience,” said the 14-year-old teenager.

The book talk aimed to encourage and inspire Kalya’s friends to nurture the spirit of achieving big things in life and be enthusiastic about pursuing their dreams.

Kalya expects more youngsters would enjoy creating beneficial work and engaging in positive activities for the sake of being young and contributing.
Mada Teresia, the Head Librarian of Bustanil Arifin Library, Al Izhar Pondok Labu, extended her appreciation. “I have been pursuing my career for 18 years, and I see Kalya’s book as extraordinary. While youth are no longer interested in books, Kalya has made a breakthrough,” said Mada. “Kalya’s book is a gentle reminder to keep on striving for your dreams, the significance of family support, and creativity in creating something worthwhile,” added Mada.
Mada expects Kalya to stay focused on her goals and her dreams: “Stay humble, be yourself, and learn a life lesson.”

Gina Lutfiah Zahra, as the Vice Principal of Al Izhar Islamic JHS, also commended her book, “Story of Kalya.” “A very inspiring book, a record of Kalya’s life journey, which includes Kalya’s numerous experiences and achievements,” expressed Gina.

I think that is a value that Kalya holds dearly and that allows her to consistently perform at her best. A value that demonstrates hard work, dedication, and humility to always stay grateful,” Gina said.

Gina wishes the best for Kalya to keep achieving her best, spreading kindness at every opportunity, and inspiring her closest surroundings. “Kalya is a true example of how hard work and determination yield achievements. Keep inspiring others, and always remember that your current success is your initial step towards a brilliant future. Keep learning, growing, and contributing to society,” Gina concluded.

Gugum Prayoga, S.P.D., the principal of Al-Izhar Islamic JHS, showed his support for Kalya’s book. “Inspiration comes from many sources. We can explore Kalya’s inspirational stories that may change our perspective on life. Thank you, ‘Story of Kalya’ book,” stated Gugum.

Kiki Puspita Sari, founder of Kiny Cultura Indonesia, made a small note in Kalya’s book. “Kalya is a person filled with commitment and consistent in her actions. She was elected to the Kiny Cultura delegation under CID UNESCO in Paris for her good character, willingness to work hard, and eagerness to learn about culture, as not all young people her age would do that. Kalya is also open to advice and approaches everything in life with dedication. We are proud of you, Kalya; keep creating and inspiring our youth,” expressed Kiki.
