Jembrana regency to hold Ngaben ceremony for ancient human remain

Jakarta, IO – The Jembrana regency administration in Bali will purify the spirit of an ancient human remain found in Gilimanuk recently by holding the Ngaben Kusa Pranawa ceremony.

Jembrana regent I Nengah Tamba said the ceremony is scheduled to be held in early February. The ceremony is usually done by Hindus for bodies that have been buried or washed away and missing, per detikcom.

Tamba explained that the human remain is now held by the Gilimanuk Early Human Museum. It is considered an important finding in the world of archeology.

Tamba also said that the ancient skeleton is estimated to be around 10,000 years old and is believed to be the ancestor of the Jembrana people.

The ceremony involves the use of reed leaves which symboloze the human body. This ceremony also aims to preserve Jembrana’s purity. Tamba said the residents of traditional villages who still have families who have been cremated and yet to be purified can take part in the procession free of charge. (un)
