Jakarta, IO – Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi again conveyed Indonesia’s condemnation of the violence in Myanmar which has been going on for more than two years since the country was controlled by the military junta.

“We are still very concerned about the continuing and escalating violence in Myanmar. Indonesia strongly condemns the use of force and violence,” Retno said at the 56th Asean Foreign Ministers Meeting in Jakarta, per Katadata, Thursday (12/7).

She also invited all parties to jointly denounce the ongoing violence in Myanmar. Retno said that this step need to be taken to allow the smooth distribution of aid and facilitate dialogue to pave the way to peace.

“Only political solution can produce long-lasting peace,” said Retno.

In front of the Asean foreign ministers, Retno also reminded the audience about the agreement known as the 5 Points Consensus (5PC) which is still the main accord for solving the Myanmar political crisis.

5PC, added Retno, is expected to encourage constructive dialogue, cessation of violence, mediation between parties in conflict, provision of humanitarian assistance, as well as a special envoy to Myanmar. (un)
