Getting to know Kaimana, a regency in West Papua dubbed the “City of Twilight”

Jakarta, IO – Kaimana regency offers a slew of charming tourist destinations in West Papua. When visiting this place, don’t miss to enjoy the phenomenal sunset which earn it the nickname City of Twilight.

“Kaimana has very beautiful sunsets, if you get to see it at the right moment, the color is like a rainbow and it reflect on the houses,” said Kaimana regent Freddy Thie, per Kompas Travel, Tuesday (13/6).

Located in West Papua, the best place to enjoy the beautiful charm of the sunset is on the Kaimana coast, not far from Jokowi Iriana Park, named after the president and the first lady who visited the place before.

“Around late 2019 President Jokowi went to Kaimana and watched the sunset here,” said Freddy.

So mesmerizing is the sunset it has inspired a song “Senja di Kaimana” (Twilight in Kaimana) sung by Alfian in the 1960s.

“I will always remember the beautiful sunset, the twilight in Kaimana,” reads the lyrics composed by Surni Warkiman.

Kaimana is a waterfront city overlooking the Arafuru Sea. The regency is made up of 84 villages, two sub-districts and seven districts, inhabited by numerous tribes. The indigenous people are the tribes called Kuripasai, Miereh, Maerasi, Irarutu, Koiway, Oburau, Madewana and Kunro. (bp)
