Jakarta, IO – The government is making it easier for foreigners to obtain residence permits and stay for longer in Indonesia through a Golden Visa scheme, approved in August.

These provisions are stipulated in Law and Human Rights Ministerial Regulation 22/2023 on visas and stay permits, per CNBC Indonesia, Monday (4/9).

One of the articles defines the Golden Visa as visa granted to individuals who carry out certain activities such as investment. It has a validity period of 5-10 years.

“Golden visa aims to support the national economy,” said the Director General of Immigration Silmy Karim.

Silmy explained that the visa is a mandate from President Joko Widodo. The visa recipients will be classified as foreigners whose activities are beneficial to the country’s economic development.

Silmy said foreigners who want to set up a company in Indonesia can get a golden visa to stay for 5 years, with the condition that they invest US$2.5 million (Rp38 billion) and 10 years if they invest US$ 5 million (Rp76 billion).

He also said that Golden Visa holders would enjoy a number of exclusive benefits, among others, longer stay periods, ease of entry and exit, and the lack of need to apply for a residence permit to the immigration office. (un)
