Jakarta, IO – Jakarta caretaker governor Heru Budi Hartono said that artificial intelligence technology installed at road intersections can monitor the speed and density of vehicles. According to him, the newly implemented technology can reduce congestion by up to 15-20 percent at several areas in Jakarta.
“This (artificial intelligence) makes it easier to monitor congestion and flow of traffic. Creating traffic efficiency to 15 percent to 20 percent,” Heru said, per Detik, Tuesday (4/7).
According to Heru, the density can be slightly reduced thanks to artificial intelligence technology integrated with CCTV at 20 sites where artificial intelligence technology can detect the number of vehicles and is connected to the traffic light system. Thus, the technology can analyze and offer solutions to reduce congestion.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Transportation Agency head Syafrin Liputo said the artificial intelligence system had been implemented for three months since last April. As a result, congestion at 20 intersections has been reduced by up to 20 percent.
The agency no longer needs to manually set traffic lights. This is because artificial intelligence is capable of scanning directly, he said.
“There are 20 intersections that have applied the artificial intelligence technology with an intelligent transport system at traffic lights,” added Syafrin.
