Dawid Tomala, 2020 Olympics Race Walk Champion shares his story on visit to Indonesia

Jakarta, IO – Dawid Tomala, a Polish athlete who won the gold medal at the 50 kilometers race walk competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is in Indonesia. Tomala came on the invitation of KODING NEXT, the first school in Indonesia that teaches programming to children aged 4 years and the only programming school in Southeast Asia.

“I am happy to be here, later I will collaborate with KODING NEXT to develop the online course “Olympian Mind” or Olympian Mentality, an innovative course designed to help children and teenagers develop important skills in their lives,” said Tomala during the Meet & Greet event at Mercure Hotel, PIK Aveneu, North Jakarta, Sunday (15/10).

On this occasion, Tomala recounted the inspiring journey that led him to become an Olympic champion. “I was trained by my father Grzegorz Tomala since the age of 15, slowly I got results including winning the 2020 Tokyo Olympics which was like a dream come true,” said Tomala, who since 2003 has won several prestigious championships in Poland and Europe.

At the Tokyo Olympics, the 34-year-old athlete managed to record a time of 3 hours 15 minutes. “I had about 15km until the end and I knew it was possible to lose energy but I stayed focused and consistent,” said Tomala who became the last athlete to win the 50km race walk after it was discontinued in 2022.

With KODING NEXT, he will teach students how to find their passion, set meaningful goals, maintain enthusiasm in facing challenges, work effectively in teams, creative problem solving, and many other skills.

The goal is to empower young individuals with the skills and mentality necessary to face life successfully and overcome obstacles, similar to the mentality and dedication of Olympic athletes.

“I am very happy to be able to collaborate in creating “Olympian Mind”. Education is the key to success, and I am sure this innovative soft skills online course will help the younger generation reach their maximum potential and not give up easily,” said Tomala. (rr)
