Govt Evacuates 4 Indonesian Citizens from Palestine

Jakarta, IO – Foreign Ministry (Kemlu) successfully evacuated 4 Indonesian citizens (WNI) from the West Bank, Palestine.

The evacuation was carried out in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy in Amman. They arrived safely in Jakarta on Sunday (15/10), per Kemlu.go.id, Monday (16/10).

The evacuation process began on Friday (13/10) by land route from the safe house in Jerusalem via the Jordan River which borders Amman, Jordan.

Kemlu revealed there are still hundreds of Indonesian citizens in the West Bank who chose to stay.

“As many as 136 Indonesian citizens are still in the West Bank and surrounding areas. They chose to remain in their respective locations,” stated Kemlu.

In addition, the government is still trying to evacuate 10 Indonesian citizens from the Gaza Strip. The fragile security situation means the process has to be carried out with caution.

Since Hamas, the Palestinian militant group, launched massive, coordinated attacks on Israel soil on Saturday (7/10). The conflict has so far killed more than 3,000 people on both sides and left many more civilians injured.

Kemlu earlier confirmed that no Indonesian citizens have been harmed in the armed conflict. (un)
