Cambodia PM apologizes for flag incident at SEA Games

Jakarta, IO – Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Sen personally apologized to President Joko Widodo for the upside down flag incident at the opening ceremony of SEA Games recently.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said the apology was conveyed on the sidelines of the 42nd Asean summit in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Wednesday (10/5), reported CNNIndonesia, Thursday (11/5).

“Prime Minister Hun Sen apologized to Indonesia for the incident where the Indonesian flag was flown upside down at the SEA Games opening ceremony,” Retno said.

It happened when one of the local Cambodian singers performed accompanied by dancers carrying 11 flags of the Asean member states. However, Indonesian flag was shown upside down, making it look like a Polish flag. The incident instantly drew flak from Indonesian netizens after it went viral on social media. (un)
