Alissa recalled that Buya Syafii Maarif was one of the figures she would visit when she was concerned about the problem the nation was facing. According to her, Buya was highly respected by her father.

“Every time I felt anxious with the state of the nation, I would ask for advice from Buya Maarif. Buya was a very respected figure #GusDur. And Buya once said the relationship between the two of them helped Buya to have a more flexible perspective on national & religious affairs,” she wrote.
Alissa also said Buya Syafii Maarif’s modest life was an inspiration for her and Indonesia was very lucky to have someone like Buya Syafii Maarif.
