Jakarta, IO – Borderline is a Jazz Group Band from Indonesia formed in 2022 and consists of 4 talented young musicians in an age range from 20 to 25: Muhammad Rega Dauna, Harmonica, Brandon Julio, Bass , Michael Ananda, Guitar and Timoti Hutagalung, Drums. The reason behind the name “Borderline” was mainly because the members of this band live on the border of their home city, hence “Borderline”.

Although the word Borderline is known for being a psychological disorder this has nothing to do with the band’s well-being. hence their slogan “we’re borderline but we’re not mentally borderline” in other words, their music is borderline. Borderline mainly plays originals that has a character to each song but still has a similarity and resemblance of that “character” in every song.

Borderline is highly influenced by the music of Chic Corea, Pat Metheny, and many more jazz giants. Every member of the band comes from a musical family, Rega Dauna is the son of legendary jazz pianist Glen Dauna, and also the only jazz harmonica player in the country, Timoti Hutagalung comes from the Hutagalung family and his brother is also a musician, Brandon and Michael are both the sons of Latin Jazz pianist Nita Aartsen.

So it’s safe to say that everyone is well-experienced in music even before Borderline was founded. The members of this band were all born and raised in Jakarta but Brandon now recites in Bali, and Michael now recites in Jogjakarta, so music reunites them every once in a while.

Borderline started out from playing jazz bar gigs in Jakarta with a sole intention of just playing music together; they had no idea they were going to form a band, nonetheless, a Family, starting from small bar gigs in South Jakarta, to big Festivals such as Ngayogjazz, Suara Festival, and Java Jazz. They even represented Indonesia on their recent Europe Tour.
