Jakarta, IO – Indonesia is hosting the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in 2024. This agenda will take place on May 18-24 in Bali.

Indonesia is the first Southeast Asian country to host the high-profile international event. Around 30,000 to 50,000 participants from various countries are expected to attend, per Setkab.go.id, Thu (28/2).

Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati said there would be hundreds of sessions at the international forum. A number of issues such as mineral resources and energy will be discussed. It will have three components, namely the thematic process, political process, and regional process.

“The thematic process is related to science from climate, water, food, energy and health.  “Then it is also discussed from the political process aspect, so the results of the scientific discussion are discussed, detailed, integrated with political discussions so that scientific thinking can be implemented in society,” explained Dwikorita.

“The regional process discussion is based on best practices in regions throughout the world, so it is hoped that the output or results of this discussion will be easier to execute, making it a policy for countries,” he explained.

Apart from that, Dwikorita also said that Indonesia would push for ministerial declarations regarding water resources, climate, food, energy and health. Apart from that, Indonesia is also encouraging the establishment of a Center of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience.

“So the alliance of centers that already exist in Asia Pacific or in the world will coordinate with Indonesia. This is one of the goals, the results that will be obtained,” he said.

WWF is the largest international meeting involving various stakeholders in the water resources sector, ranging from political leaders, governments, multilateral institutions, politicians, academics, civil society, to business actors. This activity has been held every three years since 1997.  The 10th WWF carries six main sub-themes, namely water security and prosperity, water for humans and nature, disaster risk reduction and management, governance, cooperation, and hydro-diplomacy, sustainable water finance, and knowledge and innovation.
