Jakarta, IO – Activists from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) wore frog masks wrapped in burlap sacks during a protest in front of the French Embassy, Jakarta (27/2).

They urged the French government to ban imports of frog meat following PETA’s investigation into seven frog meat industry operations in Indonesia. Indonesia is the largest exporter of frog meat in the world.

The country exported more than 35,000 tons of frog meat from 2010 to 2022, or the equivalent of 703 million to 1.7 billion frogs to the European Union, according to Eurostat. The NGO hoped that this action will temporarily stop imports of frog meat from Indonesia.
