Jakarta, IO – An exhibition entitled “25 TAHUN REFORMAS!H IN ABSENTIA” was held by the MataWaktu Visual Research Foundation in Jakarta.
This exhibition displays an array of photographs, graphics, caricatures and installation art to reflect on a quarter of century of the 1998 Reformasi movement in Indonesia. Photos of student demonstrations and the call for the resignation of Suharto became the key feature in this exhibition. The photos depict the momentous and bloody events that took place in May 1998.

One of the iconic photos in this exhibition was taken by Kompas daily photographer Eddy Hasby. The photo depicts thousands of students from a host of campuses who occupied the Parliament building. There is also a photo by the famous photographer Kemal Jufri, who shows a photo of thousands of students celebrating Suharto’s resignation. This dramatic moment led to a period of political reform after 32 years under authoritarian rule. (IO/Septo Kun Wijaya)
