49 children die from mysterious acute kidney disease, IDAI announces

Jakarta, IO – Most of those who died came to the hospital to late with sever decrease in kidney function, reported CNN Indonesia, Wednesday (19/10).

According to Indonesian Paediatrician Association’s (IDAI) record, 49 children have died from the still mysterious disease.

Of these deaths, 25 cases were reported by the Jakarta Provincial Administration, 11 in Bali, one in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), seven in North Sumatra, and five in Yogyakarta.

IDAI secretary Piprim Basarah Yanuarso said the association is still collecting initial reports from the hospitals.

“The hospitals have a more complete data. We don’t have it because we only recorded the initial incident,” said Piprim.

IDAI has coordinated with the Health Ministry with regard to the recording and reporting of surveillance data. A more detailed information on the disease distribution will be released soon. (un)
