212 Reunion; We champion democracy

IO – Sunday morning, millions of ummah gathered in the Monas area, Central Jakarta (2/12) to attend the 212 Reunion event, filling the Medan Merdeka-Thamrin-Bundaran HI area. This is not surprising, as participants of the event did not only consist of Muslims but also Indonesians from other religious denominations, with a mixture of various ethnicities from all across Indonesia. The Monas courtyard itself was not large enough to hold the millions of participants.

Although attended by millions of Indonesians, the reunion event was orderly and participants upheld the norms of democracy which is the basis of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) by maintaining good manners and hospitality even when in a crowded space.

Those attending truly understood their loyalty to the NKRI and the Pancasila together with the national motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika and practiced it by acting with tolerance. The 212 Reunion participants also knew the history of the birth of the NKRI and the Pancasila, while maintaining harmony and caring for the nation. They were aware of the importance of cleanliness, orderliness, and safety while demonstrating.

The participants could be seen starting to leave the Monas area at noon without leaving behind any trash. There were even those from the attendees that volunteered to clean up any trash left behind. They maintained the condition of the park and gardens around Monas by not stepping on them.

This event was also attended by a number of national figures such as Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, Gerindra Party Chairman Prabowo Subianto, People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Zulkifli Hasan, House of Representatives (DPR) Deputy Speaker Fadli Zon, and National Mandate Party (PAN) Honorary Board Chairman Amien Rais. There were also many ulama’s and Chinese-Indonesian figures in attendance. (Bakhirun)
