Jakarta, IO – A total of 3,454 joint personnel from various agencies were deployed to secure the commemoration of the International Labor Day or May Day in Jakarta today, Wednesday (1/5).
“Joint personnel from Jakarta Metro Police, precinct police, Jakarta Military Command, and provincial administration are ready to secure activities held to celebrate the Labor Day,” said Jakarta Metro Police spokesperson Ade Ary Syam Indradi, per CNN Indonesia.
Ade said traffic diversions would only be implemented on a situational basis. He also appealed to workers or protesters to convey their aspirations in an orderly and peaceful manner.
“Jakarta Police chief has prohibited the personnel from carrying firearms. We will prioritize humanist, persuasive and proactive approaches in dealing with the protesters,” Ade added.

As many as 50,000 workers from the Greater Jakarta region are expected to convey their aspirations around the State Palace from 9.30am to 12.30pm WIB.
Among their demands are the repeal of the Jobs Creation Law and the abolishment of outsourced low-paying jobs. (un)
