The former managing director of TVRI, gone to his reward

IO – The Indonesian broadcasting world is in mourning again. Following the passing of Inke Maris’ late last year, now Yazirwan Uyun, former chief director of Televisi Republik Indonesia (TVRI), has died, on Friday, January 15 at Pondok Indah Hospital, Bintaro, Tangerang Selatan Banten.

 “Inna lilaahi waa inna ilahi raa ji’un. The entire ranks of TVRI express their deepest condolences for the passing of Yazirwan Uyun, the former President Director of TVRI and the former Commissioner of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI),” wrote the TVRI social media account. 

Yazirwan was exposed to COVID-19, but he was able to recover and leave the hospital on January 1. After being hospitalized for 10 days, the swab test was negative. 

However, he had to return to care on January 9 after falling in his bedroom and experiencing a brain hemorrhage. The deceased left a wife, Rosdiana, three children, and five grandchildren. 

Yazirwan, who is intimately called Iwan Uyun, was born in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, on October 2, 1954, starting his career as a TVRI journalist, then working as an interviewer for a news producer. Uyun then served as Head of the Sub-Directorate for News of TVRI, then as Director of Personnel before becoming President Director of TVRI in 2004. 

Three years as Managing Director and retiring from TVRI, Yazirwan Uyun then became a member of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) for the 2007-2010 period, continuing in 2010-2013.
