Jakarta, IO – IDN Pictures is releasing its latest film, “Sleep Call,” and unveiling its official poster and trailer, scheduled to launch on August 7, at XXI Plaza Senayan in Jakarta. The film Sleep Call will premiere in Indonesian theaters on September 7, 2023.

Sleep Call projects current teenagers’ lifestyles, communicating through their phones and on social media platforms with barely any pauses. Fajar Nugros, the film director, captured the phenomenon when he observed people communicating in public transportation and other public places, even up to their bedtime, which is widely known as “Sleep Call.”

The film, written by Husein M. Atmodjo, is produced by Susanti Dewi and directed by Fajar Nugros. Sleep Call stars Laura Basuki, Juan Bio One, Kristo Immanuel, Bront Palarae, Della Dartyan, Dimas Danang, Benedictus Siregar, Rukman Rosadi and Rachel Vennya, who makes her film debut.

Winston Utomo, CEO of IDN Media, said that mental health is one of young people’s main concerns. “IDN Media and IDN Pictures are committed to producing works that address relevant issues for the younger generation, which mainly highlight mental health. Therefore, Sleep Call raises the significance of mental health and suggests paying attention to the loneliness that attacks our immediate surroundings. Sleep Call also helps build awareness and concern for the mental health of our young generation. We hope to spread the message to the audience and contribute positively to the Indonesian people,” said Winston.

“The film projects the sleep call phenomenon, which is common among young Indonesians. As a suspense thriller genre, Sleep Call is expected to accurately depict this current phenomenon, through audio-visual media and add to film variety concerning mental health in this year’s Indonesian film industry,” said Fajar, also the Head of IDN Pictures and Sleep Call Director.

Susanti Dewi, Head of IDN Pictures and Sleep Call Producer, is confident that the vision and story provided by IDN Pictures provide a quality work that represents the social realities experienced by Indonesian society. “Two of my biggest concerns are the loneliness experienced by many young people, which leads them to an unhealthy mental state, and a lavish lifestyle that entangles them in online loans. After a long process, the concerns manifested into our newest work, Sleep Call, which highlights the social boundaries merging between two strangers through cyber communication and shows how convenient yet dangerous technology can be to its users,” she explained.
