Okto went on to say that in the end, it all depends on the communication of readiness to host the most prestigious sports event in the world. “I believe that in terms of readiness, Indonesia is readier,” he said. “Even though we might not be selected as the host of the 2036 Olympics, we can still make use of the opportunity to make the bid for the next iteration. After all, in terms of economics, our nation is also a G20 country. With all possible considerations, there are many factors that work in our favor for hosting the 2036 Olympics.”
Among these considerations, Okto cited the improvement of Indonesia’s sports achievements throughout 2022 – including being third-place winner in the 2022 SEA Games in Vietnam. “There are multiple components that push you up the list of priority. First, the capability of our own athletes and coaches, including personal and training program certifications. Second, the capability of our judges and referees,” he said. “Third, our facilities; and fourth, our standing in holding smaller, but world-class events. This includes the strength of our hospitality – all of these must be improved to world-class level, similar to what our President said. He has been encouraging us to hold as many global events as possible in Indonesia, and also promoting for it. So most importantly, we need to seriously step up our organizational abilities.”
In fact, our Olympics Committee is involving the IOC in the planning for the construction of 2036 Olympics facilities in our new capital city of Nusantara. “We are making sure that the venues and facilities constructed there will comply with Olympic standards – and getting the IOC involved, even with the construction plans, should show us in a favorable light for them, in terms of hosting the 2036 Olympics later,” Okto declared.
