Jakarta, IO – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Friday (24/11) inaugurated the National Strategic Project (PSN) Tangguh Train 3 LNG plant in Teluk Bintuni regency, West Papua. It is set to be the largest natural gas producer in Indonesia.

Jokowi said the total investment for this project was the equivalent of Rp72.45 trillion. According to him, the production from this third refinery can increase Tangguh LNG annual production capacity to 11.4 million tons per year, per Setkab.go.id, Fri (24/11).

Alhamdulillah [Praise be to God], today we are inaugurating the Tangguh Train 3 Project, the largest natural gas producer in Indonesia, and we will also break the ground for the Ubadari CCUS, blue ammonia downstreaming and the Asap Kido Merah oil and gas field projects,” said Jokowi.

This project will also contribute to the fulfilment of national gas production target of 12 BSCFD (billion standard cubic feet per day) by 2030. In addition, 70 percent of the workforce comes from Papua.

“I am happy that this project absorbs a lot of local workers. Currently, 70 percent of Tangguh’s operational staff are workers from West Papua and Papua Provinces. And, I heard that there is a new target by 2029 to increase it to 85 percent. This is very good and 105 operational technicians and maintenance workers are West Papuan sons and daughters who have been recruited since high school, who are undergoing an education program from BP in Berau,” he enthused.

The next project that will be built is the downstreaming of natural gas into low carbon ammonia. The plan is that 875,000 tons/year of blue ammonia will be produced and used for co-firing in power plants and steel factories. (bp)
