President Jokowi inaugurates Ewer Airport to serve ATR 72

Jakarta, IO – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated Ewer Airport in Asmat Regency, South Papua, Thursday (6/7). He hopes the air transport infrastructure can contribute to regional growth.

“We hope the economy in Asmat regency, South Papua, will improve,” said Jokowi, per Setkab.go.id Friday (7/7).

Jokowi said the airport is ready to to meet the air transportation needs of the people in Asmat regency and make the region less isolated because it will facilitate the movement of people and goods.

“Inter-regional connectivity is very important, between districts, provinces or islands,” Jokowi said. “Because it will speed up the mobility of people and goods,” he added.

Ewer Airport has a 1,650m runway which is capable to serve ATR 72 planes. In addition to boosting local economic growth, the airport can also spur tourism in the region. (un)
