Jakarta, IO – The new monument is erected on a corner at Pati Square in Pati regency, Central Java.

Shaped in the image of a milkfish (bandeng), it is made from thousands of noisy exhaust pipes, known locally as ‘knalpot brong’ confiscated by the Central Java Regional Police during vehicle check in the span of four months, per Kompas, Thu (18/1).

This creative idea came from Pati Police Traffic Unit who were inspired by the iconic product of the regency. According to the unit’s head, Commissioner Asfauri, the monument is 11.5 meters long and 2 meters tall and was made from 4,031 exhaust pipes.

“It took about ten days, made by craftsmen from Rendole,” Asfauri revealed. The use of noisy exhaust pipes has been in the spotlight lately because it is prohibited by traffic rules. Asfauri said that the construction of the monument aims to promote orderly road behaviour and safety.

He also hoped that the monument can serve as a reminder to motorcyclists to stop using the exhaust pipes that can disturb public order and endanger the safety of other motorists and pedestrians.

“This monument is an eye-catching reminder to all road users passing through the heart of Pati city,” he said. (un)
